While no dental procedure is 100% comfortable, we go to great lengths to minimize any discomfort you might feel. Many of our patients make statements like, "This was not as bad as I thought it would be. I did not even take any pain medication, how did you do that?" The following are some of the latest techniques we use to provide you with as comfortable an experience as possible:
Patient comfort is one of the most important aspects of care. Different patients have different needs for pain and anxiety control medication. Depending upon the procedure and your wishes, there are many medications we can prescribe.
Injections of Anesthesia
In the past, injections of dental anesthesia may have been uncomfortable. We recognize this and take extra care when preparing a patient for anesthetic. We use a topical anesthetic on your gums first to desensitize them and then administer the injection very slowly and precisely to reduce the burning sensation that can be experienced. These techniques help to provide our patients with minimal discomfort during this portion of care.
Oral, nitrous oxide and IV sedation can all be used alone or in combination for those patients who would feel more comfortable with sedation during your treatment. You will be sedated by Dr. Glover and continuously monitored by a trained surgical assistant using the most up-to-date equipment to monitor your blood pressure, pulse rate, oxygen saturation and EKG. Just enough sedation is administered to allow you to be completely relaxed while still maintaining your protective reflexes. Afterward, using IV conscious sedation you will have only limited recollection of your dental treatment.
Your comfort is one of our primary concerns. If you have any questions about sedation, please do not hesitate to discuss these with us.
We adhere to the highest professional standards of cleanliness, sterilization, and radiation control. Our staff regularly attend safety seminars and are knowledgeable on the latest techniques.
All our staff are Basic Life Support (BLS) certified. Our hygienist and surgical assistants are certified by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for nitrous oxide sedation.
Dr. Glover is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and is licensed by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for oral, inhalation and IV sedation. He has over 30 years of experience with all of these forms of sedation.
